Ao aproximar-se da celebração de seu jubileu de prata, o Programa de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu em Ciências da Religião (PPGCR) – Mestrado e Doutorado – da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás (PUC Goiás) realizará, de 18 a 20 de abril de 2023, seu XI Congresso Internacional em Ciências da Religião, que terá como tema “Religião, Arte e Cultura: multiplicidades convergentes”. O evento se coloca em continuidade às dez edições anteriores dos já tradicionais Congressos Internacionais promovidos pelo PPGCR da PUC Goiás, cuja Área de Concentração – Religião, Cultura e Sociedade – sempre possibilitou a integração de diferentes frentes da investigação sistêmica, reunidas ao redor do fenômeno religioso como objeto comum às suas múltiplas metodologias. Isso é o que certamente também se poderá testemunhar na edição de 2023: a realização de um congresso de natureza eminentemente interdisciplinar, com base nas variadas formas de acesso à relação entre religião, arte e cultura, e que contribua na leitura de uma sociedade que tem o ser humano como ponto de referência. Arte e religião, por isso, podem ser consideradas formas arquetípicas de uma manifestação primordial, testemunho do que há de mais longevo no traço característico da condição humana: a possibilidade de fundar um mundo de sentidos e significados – o que, mormente, nomeamos pelo vocábulo cultura. Logo, a cultura passa a ser concebida como o campo em que se pode dispor, conceber, ler, interpretar, agir e reagir, celebrar (tanto na esfera das materialidades, quanto naquilo de imaterial que se faz presente à expressão humana), o contato entre fé, espiritualidade, religiosidade e religião e suas consequentes expressões no universo de artes como a música, a literatura, a arquitetura, a escultura, a pintura, a fotografia, o cinema, o teatro, entre outras tantas possibilidades que a cada dia eclodem à nossa volta. Por um lado, sempre coube às artes inaugurar o espaço de participação sensível ao conteúdo transmitido pelas tradições religiosas. As artes “materializaram” o sagrado, traduziram-no à experiência dos que a elas recorreram, também como forma de transposição ao totalmente outro temporal e espacialmente. Por outro, nenhum conteúdo mereceu tanta dedicação por parte das diferentes artes que a religião, servindo de inspiração a um longo legado de artistas, no Ocidente e no Oriente. Partindo, portanto, de uma aproximação que, embora natural, nem sempre tem sido suficientemente explorada, pode-se considerar a pertinência deste evento, que também se fará espaço de encontro e ponto de vista privilegiado para a leitura do tempo presente.

JUSTIFICATION

As it approaches the celebration of its silver jubilee, the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Program in Sciences of Religion (PPGCR) – Masters and Doctorate – of the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás (PUC Goiás) will hold, from April 18 to 20, 2023, its XI International Congress on Sciences of Religion, which will have as its theme “Religion, Art and Culture: convergent multiplicities”. The event is a continuation of the ten previous editions of the already traditional International Congresses promoted by the PPGCR of PUC Goiás, whose Area of Concentration – Religion, Culture and Society – has always enabled the integration of different fronts of systemic investigation, gathered around the religious phenomenon as a common object to its multiple methodologies. This is what will certainly also be witnessed in the 2023 edition: the holding of an eminently interdisciplinary congress, based on the various forms of access to the relationship between religion, art and culture, and that contributes to the reading of a society that has the human being as a point of reference. Art and religion, therefore, can be considered archetypal forms of a primordial manifestation, testimony of what is most long-lived in the characteristic feature of the human condition: the possibility of founding a world of senses and meanings – which, mainly, we name by the word culture. Therefore, culture starts to be conceived as the field in which one can dispose, conceive, read, interpret, act and react, celebrate (both in the sphere of materialities and in the immaterial that is present in human expression), the contact between faith, spirituality, religiosity and religion and their consequent expressions in the universe of arts such as music, literature, architecture, sculpture, painting, photography, cinema, theater, among many other possibilities that emerge every day around us. On the one hand, it was always up to the arts to inaugurate the space for sensitive participation to the content transmitted by religious traditions. The arts “materialized” the sacred, translated it into the experience of those who resorted to them, also as a way of transposing to the totally other, temporally and spatially. On the other hand, no content has deserved so much dedication on the part of the different arts than religion, serving as an inspiration to a long legacy of artists, in the West and in the East. Starting, therefore, from an approach that, although natural, has not always been sufficiently explored, one can consider the relevance of this event, which will also become a meeting space and a privileged point of view for the reading the present time.
